Did you know that nearly 4 million dogs and cats are put to death in Municipal Shelters each year simply because there are not enough homes for them? That's 10,959.00 animals killed per day!
Did you know that approximately 70% of all cats that enter a Municipal Shelter are killed and that ony 30% make it out alive?
How about the fact that 25% of all dogs that enter Municipal Shelters are pure breed dogs from puppy mills and that Pit Bull Terrier type dogs have the highest rate of euthanasia?
You can help save lives by spaying or neutering your pet and by adopting a Shelter pet. And if you are looking for a pure bred dog or cat, be sure to check your local Shelter or Rescue Group. Chances are you'll find what your looking for!

About us: The Humane Society of East Tennessee is a non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to helping companion animals find good homes. We rescue dogs and cats from local municipal shelters that euthanize and we accept animals from the general public. EVERY animal we rescue stays with us until it is adopted and we never euthanize one animal to make room for another. Each animal we rescue is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested, dewormed and microchipped prior to adoption. Our adoption fees range from $75.00 - $150.00 and include the above mentioned services as well as free lifetime micro-chip registration and 30 days of Pet Shelter Care Insurance.
Our Mission Statement: The mission and purpose of the Humane Society of East Tennessee is to promote the welfare of animals, to strengthen the human-animal bond and to further the cause of responsible animal adoption and ownership through education and public awareness. The Society actively promotes kindness, the elimination of cruelty to and neglect of all animals, and the lifelong commitment of people to their pets.
Funding: We receive no State, City or County Funding. The animals in our care rely on the kindness and generosity of our community for all basic needs and medical care. So from cat litter to toys, to yummy treats and office supplies, we are always in need of things to create a home away from home for our most special of guests, the animals.
